On Monday, February 22, 2021, Arthur Charles Holzinger Jr., loving husband, father of four children, and grandfather to eleven, passed away at home in Oxford, NY at the age of 87.
Arthur "Art" was born on December 3, 1933 to Arthur Charles Holzinger and Elsie Wolff Holzinger in Mt Vernon, New York. He graduated from Mt Vernon High School and attended Westchester Community College with a major in Mechanical Engineering before enlisting in the US Army serving during the Korean Conflict (8/4/53). When honorably discharged on 7/31/61, he began his career at Olivetti Corp, then later Diggins Equipment Corp, installing industrial heating systems. Having a fearless, think out-of-the-box approach to life and a strong business sense he moved on to own and operate McNulty Fuel Oil; Northeast Fuel Savers and Modern Aircraft while living in New York state.
In 1983, Art bought a farm and moved his family to Pittston, Maine. Over the years that followed, he opened a series of businesses that included: Down East Feed and Farm Supply, Peggy's Butchering Service, Art's Gun Shop and AC Auto.
Art had a love of flying from an early age and built a gyrocopter, an ultralight Teratorn, and a Polliwagen. He hosted and taught workshops to share home-built aircraft construction techniques.
He is survived by his wife, Christine (Race) Holzinger; his daughter, Christine Poulin and her fiancé Robert Peatfield; his sons John Andrus and his wife Kari, and Alex Holzinger and his wife Kristen; his daughter Katy Burzcynski and her husband Josh; Eleven grandchildren Nathalie, Gabrielle, Madeline, Jordan, Ben, Vada, Greta, David, Matthew, Aaron and Elizabeth.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Behe Funeral Home Inc. 21 Main Street, Oxford, NY. No funeral services will be held at this time. A memorial service celebrating Art's life will be held in the springtime in Pittston, Maine, and will be announced at a later date.
