Beverly Alice Struglia
Beverly Alice (Nichols) Struglia, of Killawog, went to be with the Lord on Palm Sunday, March 28, 2021. She was born February 20, 1931 in Norwich, NY to Ward and Dorothy (King) Nichols. Her father was an electrician and her mother worked at the local A & P. In 1952, she married Hubert Race, of Oxford, a dairy farmer whom she met at a dance in Norwich, and together they had four children. Beverly was widowed in 1961 and then ten years later she married Caesar Struglia of Cortland and together they moved the family to Killawog. Beverly was fun loving and always up for an adventure. She loved to get in her car and drive. Beverly was an expert knitter and many local people still have the sweaters and stockings she made. She worked for many years at Page Seed Company, George Junior Republic and Good Hope Youth Home. Beverly loved to volunteer and was a member of the Killawog Fire Company Auxiliary, Kings Daughters, the Whitney Point Food Pantry and Clothing Bank, and several local churches.
She is survived by her son, Jeffery (Virginia) Race of Temple, TX; her daughter, Kimberlea (Peter) VanderWoude of Cortland; her daughter-in-law, Shirley Race of Whitney, TX; her grandchildren, Kellea (John) Bauda of Lansing; Geoffrey (Bethany) VanderWoude of Potsdam; Nigel VanderWoude of Cortland; Kaylea Race (Jon) Nixon of McKinney, TX; Jason (Celeste) Race of Temple, TX; Tejae (Jennifer) Race of Whitney, TX; her sister-in-law, Lena Struglia of Portland, OR; special niece, Peggy Seiler of Oxford, and special cousin, Llewellyn Walling of Greene. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and their families, eight great grandchildren, and many friends.
Beverly was predeceased by her parents, Ward and Dorothy Nichols; her sister, Phyllis Nichols; her husbands, Hubert Race and Caesar Struglia; her sister-in-law, Edith Struglia Tankersley; and her sons, Glenn Mitchell Race and Hubert "Hebe" Race.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Behe Funeral Home Inc. 21 Main Street, Oxford, NY 13830. A Celebration of Life will be scheduled during the summer. Burial and graveside services for the family will be in Riverview Cemetery in Oxford, NY.
