Donald B. Race of Oxford, N.Y. Donald B.. Race, 94, passed away on January 15, 2017 at his home in Oxford. He was born November 15, 1922 in Oxford the son of the late Charles and Edith (Burlison) Race. Donald served his country in the United States Army during WWII. He landed on Omaha Beach in Normandy France in July 1944 as part of the D-Day Invasion. He received the Good Conduct, WWII Victory, and several Battle Star medals. Donald returned to Oxford on December 13, 1945. He was a long time member of the American Legion, Oxford Rotary and Lions Clubs and St. Paul's Church.
He also liked to bowl and play cards with his brothers and friends.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy Race, just celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary this past December 19th; his son Gregory, daughter Christine and her husband Art Holzinger; Dan and his wife Gail; Brian and his wife Sayda. There are many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Donald was the last surviving brother of five. His brothers Lawrence, Paul, Kenneth and Harold all predeceased him.
Calling hours are between 4 to 6 PM on Thursday January 19, 2017 at the Behe Funeral Home, Inc. at 21 Main Street in Oxford, NY. The funeral will take place at St. Paul's Episcopal Church on Friday morning at 11:00 AM at 34 Main Street. This will be followed by a burial ceremony at Riverview Cemetery in Oxford.
