Enrico P. Fagnani Enrico P. Fagnani, 94, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2019 in Virginia Beach, VA with family at his side. He was born in Pelham, NY in 1925 to Enrico C. and Angelina Fagnani, the fifth of 10 children, and grew up in Mahopac, NY on the family farm, later moving to Croton-on Hudson, NY. With the passing of their mother, the family grew close, depending on one another in a caring, loving Italian family and always grateful to God for watching over them. Enrico was drafted into the U.S. Army when he turned 18 years old in 1943. He served honorably assigned to the 99th General Hospital in Europe at the Invasion of Normandy, France and the Battle of the Bulge in Germany. He was honorably discharged at the end of the war in 1945. Enrico married Dorothy in 1950, who predeceased him in 2006, after 56 years of marriage.
Enrico, affectionately known as "Doc" and "Uncle Doc" by extended family, was a hardworking man who was a master bricklayer by trade, in addition to operating a dairy farm with his family,and was an avid baker and cook. In retirement he also mastered woodworking and furniture making.
He enjoyed maintaining a garden with his wife Dorothy, growing many vegetables, cooking many meals together and sharing with family and friends. He also built outdoor brick ovens at his home for baking bread and pizza.
Enrico is survived by his children Kenneth (Colleen) Fagnani; John (Carolyn) Fagnani; Ann Marie (Timothy) Smith and Emily (Ellis) Redford and grandchildren: Timothy, Adam (Nila), Daniel, James (Megan) and Heather, and three great-grandchildren. He is survived by siblings Elsie Whalen, Attilio (Judy) and sisters-in-law Terry (Matthew) and Patricia (Louis) Fagnani, along with many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Gina, Fr. Anthony, Guido, Rose Tornello, Lawrence, Louis and Matthew Fagnani.
Visitation will be Sunday, May 19, 2:00-4:00 pm at Behe Funeral Home, 21 Main St, Oxford, NY 13830. The Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, May 20 at 11:00 at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, corner of Scott and State Streets, followed by interment at St Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, the Oxford American Legion Post 376 or your local Veteran's organization.
