April 28, 1925 — June 22, 2012

G. Riley Howe, 87 of McDonough, NY, passed away on June 22, 2012. He was born on April 28, 1925 in West Bainbridge, NY.
He first attended school in Johnson City, at Theodore Roosevelt school, and C. Fred Johnson school. These were the years of the 1930's depression, and like many families, came upon hard times. In 1938 Riley was sent to McDonough to live with his grandmother, while his brother, J. Nelson Howe was sent to the Oneonta area to live with a step-sister. While living with his grandmother he attended McDonough Union school, and later graduated the Class of 1943 from Oxford Academy and Central Schools.
On April 29, 1944 he married Lenora M. Hurlburt. Together they raised three children, Janet C. (DeForest); Joanne M. (Peterson); and George Riley Howe, Jr. He is survived by his son George Jr., and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Lenora; both daughters, Janet and Joanne; and twin girls Jean and Joan, who were lost at birth in 1946.
Riley spent most of his working years employed by Ford Homes, and F.B.Y. Construction Company, of McDonough, NY. After retirement, he spent several years doing remodeling work and cabinet making from home. He was an avid golfer, and really enjoyed playing with the "seniors" on Tuesday mornings in Cincinnatus, as well as his regular foursome of family members that played most Sundays.
A graveside memorial service will be held at the convenience of his family in Union Cemetery, McDonough. Arrangements are in the care of Behe Funeral Home, 21 Main St., Oxford, NY.
