Gerard J. Walsh, 86 of Norwich, NY, formerly of West Sayville, NY, passed away on Friday, January 17, 2014 at the Norwich Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. He is survived by his wife Joyce; their daughter Brenda Ivans and her husband Joe; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Vincent A. Walsh and Willard Walsh.
Gerry worked as an instructor and assistant principal at BOCES II in Patchogue, NY and was a member of Local 25 IBEW on LI. He was president of the teacher's association, a member of NYSUT, IBEW 25 retirees club, Suffolk Democratic Committee, and Third Order of St. Francis. He also proudly served in the United States Army Air Force. A veteran of World War II and the Korean War.
A Funeral Mass will be offered at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, January 21 at St. Bartholomew's Catholic Church in Norwich, NY, with Rev. Ralph Bove officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday from 4 PM - 7 PM at Behe Funeral Home, 21 Main Street, Oxford, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are encouraged to be made to Hospice of Chenango County, 21 Hayes Street, Norwich, NY 13815.
