Isabel lu alger

October 7, 1934 — November 30, 2013

Isabel Stilwell Alger, born October 7, 1934 in Elk Creek, slipped away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family on November 30, 2013 after a long and fearless battle with lung cancer.
Isabel lived a long and full life. She will be remembered for so many varied things. She could have been anything she wanted, but she chose to be a wife and mother. She loved to read, garden, cook and keep in touch with friends and family on her computer. Her accomplishments were many. She was a writer for the Oxford Review Times (as Fanny of the Funny Farm), a restaurant owner (Fancy Farm) and an actual goat farmer due to her daughter's allergy to cow milk. She was the Chenango County Fair's honorary Gramma to every kid in the dairy barns.
One of her greatest moments was when she saved the life of a boy who lost his leg in a farming accident. She was a McDonough Fire Commissioner and a one time member of the McDonough Emergency Squad. She was the "woman from McDonough" on the Evening Sun online forum and the true Queen of Tannery Road.
She spent her life always helping others and thinking of them before herself. You could show up on any Sunday for a hot meal and a voice of reason when seeking advice. Every grandchild (and dog) was sent to "Gramma Camp" for a little straightening out, at least once.
You could count on her to be able to identify any plant, whether a weed, flower or vegetable, and you could describe any bird and she'd be able to tell you what it was. She will be missed for her wisdom, wit and love.
Through three marriages, she raised nine children. Whether they came from her womb or from another's, she loved them all. Her legacy will live on in the family she leaves behind;
Her brothers, Bud Stilwell and his wife Emily of Munnsville, NY, and Bobby Campbell and his wife Judy of South Farmingdale, NY.
Her children: Jim Williams of Richfield Springs and his children Jeremy, Jessie, Jackie and Jeanette, Roberta Williams Muzzy of Oxford, NY and her children Megan, Kyle, Katlyn and Malorey, George Williams of McDonough, NY. John Tracy, his companion Angela Salvia of McDonough, NY and their son Uri, Becky Tracy Yacano and her husband Joe of Norwich, NY and their children Mike, John and Allison. Her step children, Rob Tracy, his wife and children, Rick Tracy and his children Eric, Erin and Dustin, Skip and Buddy Alger and families. She will be remembered also as "Gramma-Great" to many great grandchildren. She leaves behind various nieces, nephews, friends and honorary family members, most notably, Patsy Harahus, Cory Vigus and Rich and Kate Stone.
We have been told that she lived her life as a warrior and that even warriors need there rest, so, rest now sweet warrior, rest now.
Friends may call at the Behe Funeral Home, 21 Main St., Oxford on Saturday, December 7, 2013 from 2-4 PM. In true Isabel fashion, she asked that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the McDonough Fire Department Auxiliary, because, "they need it".
