John E. Bakoon, 75 of Bainbridge passed away on September 8, 2018 at his home. He was born on August 20, 1943 in Norwich a son of late Anthony and Barbara (Irving) Bakoon.
He is survived by his companion of eighteen years, DeeDee Cable of Bainbridge; his siblings, Bonnie Davis, Barbara Ingraham, William Hunter, and Daphne Burdick. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his son, John Joseph Bakoon, his step father, Leroy (Red) Hunter and his grandmother, Mina Harvey.
John graduated from Oxford Academy and Central School, Hudson Valley Community College, Sienna College with a bachelor's Degree and SUNY Albany with his master's Degree. He taught school at Bainbridge-Guilford High School for 34 years and served as their golf coach for many years. He served in the US Army and was a member of American Legion Post 183. He loved to play golf and bowling. He and DeeDee enjoyed traveling. He was known for his ability to cook, especially cabbage soup.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at 2:00 PM from the Behe Funeral Home, 21 Main St., Oxford. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery, Oxford.
