Ladis M. Velez Seaman Stockton of Oxford, NY passed away unexpectedly at Lourdes Hospital on January 28, 2014 with her husband, son and daughter by her side. She was born in San German, Puerto Rico to Juan and Maria Velez Ortiz.
Ladis is survived by her husband Lee Stockton; daughter Ladis (Charles) Duncan of Solon; son Jim (Sandy) Seaman of Oxford; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; sister Pury (Waldo) Tomosky of Vestal; and brother Benito (Iris) Velez of Puerto Rico; as well as several nieces and nephews. Ladis was predeceased by her parents, several brothers and sisters, as well as her first husband, Howard Seaman.
Ladis graduated from the University of Puerto Rico, SUNY Oneonta, SUNY Albany and Binghamton University. She taught Spanish for twenty-five years at Chenango Valley Junior and Senior High Schools. She was a member of the Hope Congregational Church in Afton, the Masters Gardner Club in Norwich, a Cornell Extension Volunteer, Office of the Aging Volunteer, and RSVP Volunteer. Ladis was also a member of the Windy Hill Senior Center in Coventry.
A memorial service will be held at the Hope Congregational Church in Afton at a later time. Memorial contributions are encouraged to be made to the church at 129 Main St, Afton, NY 13730. Arrangements are under the direction of Behe Funeral Home Inc., 21 Main Street, Oxford.
