Madeline R. Cerar, 91 of Norwich, formerly of Oxford passed away on September 19, 2015 at Norwich Rehab & Nursing Center. She was born on March 1, 1924 in Charlestown, MA a daughter of the late Fred and Harriet (Lurvey) Thompson. On March 31, 1954 she married William Cerar, who passed away on April 8, 1979.
She is survived by her children, William P. Cerar of Binghamton, Carolyn and David Soroka of Sidney and Dorothy and Terry Witt of Traverse City, MI; her grandchildren, Andrew Soroka of Cleveland, GA, Adam Soroka and Alicia Soroka both of Sidney, Eric Witt and Stephanie Witt both of Traverse City, MI. She was predeceased by her brother, Charles and her sisters, Marie and Florence.
She was a member of St. Joseph's RC Church and the Altar-Rosary Society and then St. Paul's RC Church and Altar-Rosary Society. She was an artist, especially painting, which she displayed at the NYS Veteran's Home in Oxford and NBT Bank. She gave away most of her works. She was a competitive swimmer, winning many medals. She loved traveling and driving around our country. She enjoyed gardening, especially tulips. She was an avid reader. The family would like to thank Jackie Cook for her care and friendship.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2015 at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph's Church, State St., Oxford. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
