OXFORD - Margaret "Louise" Snavely, 83, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 8, 2011. She was a resident of the New York State Veteran's Home in Oxford. She was predeceased by her parents, Raymond Tuckey and Dorothy Wilson Bosworth, her husband, William, and her son, Raymond.
Louise was born in Sidney on July 6, 1927. She attended Unadilla Central School and worked at the Sno White Laundry in Sidney. In later years she worked at Valley View Nursing Home in Norwich.
Louise met "Bill" Snavely at the laundry in Sidney, a story which she loved to share with her children and grandchildren as the most special day in her life. They married March 2, 1950 and were married over fifty years. In their later adult years, they made the decision to serve as missionaries through the Berean Bible Church in Greene. For two years, Israel was their home. They returned to McDonough, NY where they lived for many years. Bill and Louise became members of the East Pharsalia Baptist Church on Easter Sunday, April 15, 1990. A generous person, Louise made her life giving and giving up for others, especially for her family. Her family will always remember her love of cooking, and the recipes and food she shared with them over the years.
Louise is survived by her brother, Ronald Wilson, Utah; from New York, daughter Linda Schlafer, Syracuse; daughter Jo Ann and husband Bruce Winsor, Guilford; Grandchildren Rae (Winsor) and husband Chris Mamorella, Syracuse; Kacie Winsor, North Carolina; Robert Schlafer, New Woodstock; Tammy Schlafer and husband, Mike Downey, Syracuse; Roger Schlafer, Farmington; Ned Schlafer and wife, Heather, Cuyler; Brent Schlafer, Belmont; Tom and wife Ilona Schlafer, Syracuse: Lance Schlafer, DeRuyter; Karrie Schlafer, Cortland; great grandchildren Shawn, Devon Schlafer, Amber Schlafer, Jeremy Schlafer, Alison Wright, Brendon Schlafer, Anna (Louise) Wright , Ashley Schlafer and Haylee Schlafer.
Calling Hours are 1:00 - 3:00 pm at the Behe Funeral Home in Oxford, with the funeral immediately following. Interment will be at a later date at the Riverview Cemetery, Oxford.
