Michael cashman sr.

May 21, 1954 — October 21, 2022

Michael Cashman, Sr. is at peace after a courageous battle with cancer. He died on October 21, 2022, while in the care of his dearest loved ones and frequently visiting family who were by his side during his final days.

Mike was born at Binghamton General Hospital, Binghamton, NY, to Edward J. Sr. and Cornelia J. Cashman of Oxford, NY, on May 21, 1954. His family resided on Albany & Chenango Streets in Oxford, NY. He attended school at Oxford Academy, Oxford, NY: graduating in 1972. He joined the United States Navy in 1974 and was an Air Intercept Controller. He was stationed on the USS Harry E. Yarnell (CG-17). While in the Navy, he met his wife, Lillian Allison Cashman. Together, they had four children: Heather, Michael, Philip (PJ), and David. Although their marriage ended 12 years later, their shared adoration for their children remained intact. Later in life, Mike met Theresa Armondi and they had one child, Joshua Cashman. After the Navy, he became a Radiology Technician and long-haul truck driver, working earnestly his entire life to provide for his family.

Mike loved to be around his children and grandchildren the most. His favorite place was fishing on the St. Lawrence River in Alexandria Bay. He had many exciting adventures in his lifetime, moving West to work in the oilfields of North Dakota and then North to Alaska. Hunting and fishing with friends and family was his favorite pastime.

Mike’s deep faith in Christ and Christ alone for his salvation brought peace, joy, and security in the midst of this trial battling cancer. That faith was made evident to his friends and family, that witnessed how he lived out his remaining months. After many appointments, surgeries, setbacks, and struggles, he went home to be where his family could visit him, and he could be at rest. This wouldn’t have been possible without the selfless friendship of Doug, Peggy, and Randy Dungey.

As Mike’s illness took a turn for the worse, Mike’s nephew, Jimmy King, was very helpful with keeping tabs on his Uncle.

The Cashman family is eternally grateful for the loving care Mike received.

He is survived by his cherished children: Heather (PJ) Borrelli of Earlville, NY; Michael (Lindsey) Cashman, Jr. of Palmer, AK; David (Laura) Cashman of Brook Park, OH, and Joshua Cashman (Taylor) of Susquehanna, PA; and his thirteen beloved grandchildren. His siblings: Edward J (Jody) Cashman, Jr.; Gail (Tim) Farrell of Winston Salem, NC; Connie “Cici” (Don) Blowers of Henrico, VA; Traci (Mark) Johnson of Henrico, VA; and Joanne (Danny)Tucker of Richmond, VA; his mother, Cornelia J. Cashman of Henrico, VA.

He is preceded in death by his father, Edward Cashman Sr., his sister Barbara King, and son Philip “PJ” Cashman.

A memorial service will be held on May 5, 2023, so all the family can be together. The location of the funeral will be held at the Behe Funeral Home, 21 Main Street Oxford, NY, with Pastor J William Fisher of Faith Baptist Tabernacle in Sherburne, NY.
