Michael Thomas (Mike) Race died on November 3, 2018 at age 67 in Norwich, NY, after suffering for many years from multiple sclerosis. He was born June 18, 1951. Mike graduated from Oxford Academy in 1969. After graduation he joined the Marines, serving our country from 1969 to 1973. On June 6, 2015 he married his wife Mickey for the second time.
After operating heavy equipment for several years on various jobs, Mike established his own industrial roofing company (RaceCo) in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Although he lived for a while in Texas, Maryland, and then in North Carolina, Oxford was always his home where he had many friends and family and where he chose to retire. Mike was a big fan of the Oakland Raiders.
Mike was predeceased by his father Linn C. Race, Jr. (Mike). He is survived by his wife Helen (Mickey) Castaldy Race; mother Jeanette Fowlston Race Biermann; sisters Lucy Race and Susan (Joseph) Blair; brothers Jim Race and Terry (Norma) Race; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins; and step-sisters Kathy Biermann and Lisa (Brian) Kowalewski. He was always close to the Castaldy family especially Betsy and Billy Castaldy and his step-children Brooke Bautz, Timothy and Natalie Bautz and their daughter Amelia.
Friends and family may call at the Behe Funeral Home 21 Main Street, Oxford, NY 13830, on Thursday, November 8 from 3:00 PM-4:00 PM. Funeral service will follow at 4:00 PM with Pastor Richard Howard officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Oxford American Legion Post 376, Oxford, NY.
