Nannette g. utter

Nannette G. Utter, 88, of East Amherst, NY, formerly of Oxford, NY, passed away on April 29, 2022. She was born on February 21, 1934, in Buffalo, the eldest of three daughters to the late Donald and Helen (Fritz) Gravener.

She is survived by her children; Karen Crissey of East Amherst, NY, Frederick Crissey II (Tammy) of Van Etten, NY, Patrick Crissey of Charlottesville, VA, Catherine Buchanan (Kevin) of Dallas, TX, Barbara Paden of Oxford, NY, Christine Brigham (Charles) of Waterville, NY, Carol Ballard of Binghamton, NY, Robert Utter of Endicott, NY, and Jennifer Lindsay (Harry) of Vestal, NY; her grandchildren, Timothy Paden (Stephanie), Jeanne McCann (Jason), Kelly Lawton (Alan), Sara Mika (Ryan), James Davern (Lindsey), Carly Miles (Rob), Dustin Crissey (Kendra), Ashley Crissey (Gage Lamis), Sabrina Sexton (Bryan), Kyle Crissey, Chloe Barnes (Aaron), Nicholas Crissey, Benjamin Crissey, Alex Buchanan, Tyler Hastings (Maria), Dillon Utter, Vaughn Utter, Brentyn Utter, Lucinda Lee, and Jonathan Lee; her sister, Patricia McAllester of Williamsville, NY, 17 great-grandchildren and other family members including cousins and nieces. She was predeceased by her husband, Merton Utter, her sister, Linda Gravener, her parents, Donald and Helen Gravener, and her grandson, Jeffrey Wetmore.

Nan graduated with the Class of 1951 from Amherst Central High School in Amherst, NY. She was a member of the Chi Omega Fraternity, Theta Alpha Chapter, at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY and graduated with a Home Economics degree in 1955. During her time in Oxford, Nan was an active member of the Oxford Lionettes and the United Church of Oxford. She helped her husband, Mert, run the Martin Supply Company in Oxford for many years until they sold the business to the Blueox Corporation. Mert and Nan enjoyed traveling extensively after their retirement and were part of the Journey Motorhome Club. The large multi-generational family gatherings at their home will be remembered fondly by the family for the food, games, garden and tractor rides. When Nan moved to the Buffalo area after Mert’s passing, she joined the Amherst Community Church, which she was a member of during her childhood, and was active in the church-sponsored Group 24 and Knitting for Peace. She also volunteered at the Red Cross and with Meals on Wheels. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and all who knew her.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, May 15, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Amherst Community Church, 77 Washington Highway, Amherst, NY with Rev. Lisa Drysdale, officiating. A memorial service will also be held at the Behe Funeral Home, 21 Main St., Oxford, NY on Saturday, May 28, 2022, at 2:00 PM with Rev. Douglas Satterlee, pastor of the United Church of Oxford, officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery, Oxford, NY.
