Richard J. Ohmer, 83 of Vestal passed away on December 5, 2017 at Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, PA. He was born on May 28, 1934 in Erie, PA a son of the late Bernard J. and Mildred (Schriefer) Ohmer. On October 28, 1961 he married V. Gale Hummel, who survives.
Besides his wife Gale, he is survived by his children: Amie Ohmer of New Berlin, Stephanie J. and Rick Kuhns of Elizabethtown, PA, and Joseph E. Ohmer and Chris Small of The Bronx, NY; his sisters, Mary Ann Sinnott, Norma Strobel and Luca Viglione and Cathy Mullen all of Erie, PA; his sisters in law, Carolyn and A. Theodore Larson of Ohio, Kathy Richardson of North Carolina; his grandchildren, Alexander and Daniel Iacono; several nieces and nephews and special friends, Dr. Donna Husmann, Nancy Phipher, and Lawrence Curtiss. He was predeceased by his in laws, Mary and Lawrence Hummel and his sister Linda Murosky.
Dick was a very active member of Kalurah Shriners, having served on the Directors Staff and as Director for several years. He and Gale drove patients to Shriners Hospitals in Boston, MA, Springfield, MA and Philadelphia, PA. He was a member of Round Hill Lodge #533, of Endicott. He was a member of Round Hill Chapter # 104 Order of the Eastern Star and had served as Patron and District Grand Lecturer. Following his retirement from IBM, Owego he and Gale launched Dream Machine Balloon Company from 1991 to 2005. He graduated from Gannon College in 1969. He enjoyed woodworking, especially making toys for children. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and snow skiing. He will be missed by his Rock Steady Boxing friends.
Friends and family may call on December 10, 2017 at the United Church of Oxford, 25 Main St, Oxford, NY from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM. Memorial service will begin at 4:00 PM with Rev. John Hill and Rev. Laura Noble officiating from. Burial will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at 1:00 PM, Honoring the exact date that Gale and Dick met 57 years ago.
