Robert J Sullivan

March 10, 1939 — March 2, 2023

Oxford, NY

Robert J. Sullivan, 83, of Oxford, NY. Passed away on March 2, 2023.

Robert was born in Canastota, NY, son of the late Robert and Dorothy (DeCapua) Sullivan. Robert was a graduate of Canastota High School in 1957.

Immediately after graduation Robert enlisted into the United States Army where he served from 1960-1962. During his time in the Army, Robert was stationed in Paris France. Due to his fluency in the French language, Robert was assigned to work for SHAPE. (Supreme Headquarters of Allied Powers Europe.) Robert was very proud to have served his country.

After his time in the Army, Robert returned to the United States where he went to school for IBM, taking their intensive training program. He later attended Onondaga Community College. Robert worked as a buyer for Carrier International for many years. He also worked for the DEC (Department of Environmental Conservation) for St. Lawrence County and ended his career working for Camp Pharsalia Correctional Facility of Chenango County.

Robert married his loving wife Ann Marie Owens on September 6, 1969, in Star Lake, NY. They started their family with the birth of their son Tom, later moving from Wanakena, NY to Oxford, NY where they would later retire. He will be greatly missed by his wife, children, and grandchildren. Robert always believed it was the love of his granddaughters that kept his heart light.

Robert was an avid hunter and fisherman in his younger years. He hunted everything from pigeons, geese, and moose. His fishing and hunting adventures were always filled with great stories. He loved fishing for Brook Trout in the Oswegatchie River, and camping with his family where he built many great campfires to sit around and enjoy the wilderness.

Robert is survived by his wife Ann Marie Sullivan and his son Tom and wife Tanya Sullivan of Reno, NV. He is also survived by his granddaughters Amelia, Lexi, and Sophia Sullivan. Robert is also survived by his sister Suzanne Aquino Amlaw of Canastota, NY and by his brother-in-law Micky and wife Katherine Owens of Little Falls, NY. Also surviving Robert are his nieces and nephews Thomas, Stephan, Anna, Katrina, Jeff, John, James and Julie. He will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Robert’s Memory can be made to the Chenango County SPCA, 6160 County Road 32, Norwich, NY13815.
