Ron Palmer of Norwich, NY passed away peacefully at his home on March 8, 2019. Ron was a well-known musician and a man of many talents who will be missed by many. He died as he lived, in his own manner and on his own terms.
Ron was born in Norwich, NY to Paul and Mildred Palmer. He graduated from the Norwich City school system. Soon after graduation Ron enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. It was while he was stationed in the frigid and isolated mountains of Alaska that Ron discovered his love and talent for the guitar.
Ron's musical talents were forged at an early age when he began piano lessons at the age of seven. Throughout his teens Ron was involved with music and the Norwich High School wrestling team. Ron would continue his musical endeavors and hone his talent over time. Although he was involved with many local musical groups over the years he was and always will be best known for having played lead guitar in the Harry Chapin band. Ron's tenure in the world of big-time musical celebrity only served to strengthen his desire for the peace and quiet of the hills of Chenango County.
After finishing his tour from the Air Force Ron was fortunate to encounter the one true love of his life,
Betty Ann Smith. Betty would prove to be his Northern star and guiding light until her passing on May 4, 2018. Ron was determined and grateful to die in the same exact spot that his beloved Betty was in when she passed. In a final tribute to his companion for eternity, Ron will have his ashes comingled with Betty's and together they will dance a final waltz to the music of the universe, that those among us, whose mortal hearts still beat, cannot hear.
Ron is survived by his son, Lincoln Palmer and Lincoln's longtime partner, Susan Predmore. Ron also leaves behind four grandchildren, Meghan, Jillian, Jacob and Jenna Palmer as well as two greatgrandchildren, Evan and Landon. As well as nephews and nieces Gary, Paul, Tammy, and Tina. Ron is also survived by his In- Laws Jim and Bev Smith, Melva and Bob Bolduc, Melody and Garry Giles, Sylva and Gene Rainbow and many nieces and nephews.
A special thank you to Bev Smith and Stacey Will for caring for Ron with love and respect, Robin from Norwich Hospice, Larry Will, John Wallace and many more friends and family who came to visit and care for Ron over the course of his illness, he loved you all. A party to celebrate Ron's life will be planned for a future date. Details will be posted in the Evening Sun and Penny Saver.
