Ruth Sheldon

We are sad to announce the passing of Ruth Marie Sheldon, 91, of McDonough NY on March 3, 2023.

Ruth was born in Greene NY to Hazel and William Excell on May 5^th in 1931. She attended school in Greene where she participated in Cheerleading, Basketball, and was president of the Art Club. She married Kenneth Ira Sheldon on October 26^th of 1957. Ruth worked as a telephone operator, part time as a Cafeteria worker at Oxford Elementary school, then for 21 years at Raymond Corporation. Ruth and Ken were lifelong members of the McDonough Methodist Church, attending from 1960 until its closing. They spent many years Square dancing with Broken Squares and round dancing with Ken’s Twirly Vines.

Ruth is preceded in death by her parents Hazel and William Excell, her brothers, Paul Excell, Don Excell and Gerald Excell and sisters Wanda Excell and Myrtle Tomal.

Ruth is survived by her brother David and Linda Excell, and her children Kenneth Sheldon and his wife Shelly, Mike Sheldon, Matt Sheldon and his wife Annie, Scott Sheldon and his wife Sandi, and numerous grandkids and great grandkids.

Mom loved family. She was an incredible mom, grandmother, and sister. She will be missed greatly by her surviving family.

There will be a small private ceremony honoring her life on at a later date at the Sylvan Lawn Cemetery In Greene, NY.
