Sally M. Small, 87, resident of Bedford, NH, died on March 11, 2024, at Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Boston, MA.
She was born on March 13, 1936, in Brockton, MA, the daughter of Myron Mather and Mae (Weatherbee) Mather. Sally was raised and educated in West Bridgewater, having graduated from Howard High School, Class of 1953. She received her bachelor’s degree in Home Economics from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, Class of 1957, and worked for New York State Cooperative Extension after graduation.
Sally married Bruce Small in May of 1960 in Amsterdam, NY and in 1963 they moved to Oxford, NY to raise their family. Following Bruce’s passing in 2002, Sally moved to Arizona to experience the warmer climate. In 2016 she relocated to Bedford, NH, to be closer to family. She always enjoyed singing, dancing, and acting, and pursued those lifelong interests in New Hampshire with the Silver Stars and Manchester Community Theatre. She was also active with the church choir and Women’s Association of the Amherst Congregational Church, active at the Manchester Senior Center, and knitted for Catholic Medical Center. She made friends wherever she went and will be greatly missed by many.
Family members include her three daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Mark Archambault of Nashua, NH, Linda and Steven Powell of Salmon, ID, Nancy and Christopher Smith of Chittenango, NY; a son, James Small of Delhi, NY and formerly of Oxford and Oneonta, NY; four grandchildren, Zachary Powell and Jess Morton of Denver, CO, Kira Powell of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Gwen Powell of Johnstown, CO and Casey Smith of Chittenango, NY; a brother, Timothy Mather of West Bridgewater, MA, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is also survived by a very dear friend, Guy Pelletier of Manchester.
Memorial contributions in Sally’s memory may be made to the Amherst Congregational Church in Amherst, NH, or to the Oxford Academy & Central Schools Scholarship Fund, P O Box 192, Oxford, NY 13830.
