Stanley L. Bartle, 87 of Oxford passed away on August 7, 2020 at his home. He was born on May 22, 1933 in Montgomery, NY a son of the late Hugh F. and Emily (Smith) Bartle. On February 20, 1954 in East McDonough he married Grace Bliven, who survives.
Besides his wife, Grace, he is survived by his daughter, Sue Lamphere of Oxford and his son Michael and wife Bonnie of Preston; his sisters, Lorraine and husband Norman Franklin of Sumter, SC, and Carole and husband David Kross of Earlville, and his sister in law, Joyce Ardron of Oxford: and his grandson, Jacob Lamphere of Oxford. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. He was predeceased by his brother Bruce Bartle.
Stan's family moved to Oxford and settled on the former Tom Roach farm on Route 220 when he was 3. He graduated from Oxford Academy and Central School, Class of 1951, where he was active in football and basketball.
He then enlisted in the US Air Force and served proudly for over 21 years at Sampson AFB, NY, Ft. Belvoir, VA, Shaw AFB. He then served in Korea, Okinawa, Germany, France and Thailand and several stateside bases, retiring as a Master Sergeant at Plattsburgh AFB.
Upon retirement from the Air Force, he held positions with Martin Supply Co., Reese-Baldwin Oil Co., Ives Hauling, and Terpening, Chenango County 60+ and NBT Bank. He was a member of the National Association of Uniformed Services, Fort Hill Post #376, American Legion, and the American Military Retirees Association. He belonged to the United Church of Oxford. He enjoyed traveling and visiting family. He was also a serious family genealogy studier. He and Grace enjoyed their many walks outside.
A Celebration of Life will be held later at Preston Pride Park. Military honors will be accorded in Riverview Cemetery, Oxford, NY on Saturday, August 15, 2020 at 2:00 PM with honors by the US Air Force and Fort Hill Post, #376, American Legion. Memorial contributions may be made to the United Church of Oxford, PO Box 566, Oxford, NY. or the Preston Fire Department.
