William Grant Jackson, Bill, 86 of Oxford, NY passed to his heavenly reward on October 28th, 2024, after an extended illness. He is survived by the love of his life, wife Anne, his children David (Nicole) Jackson, Karen (Darien) Beagle, grandsons Grant and Luke Jackson, brother Price (Carol) Jackson, sister Deborah (Frank) Brancaleoni, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Walter M. and Margaret A. Jackson, and siblings; Edna (Frank) Ferguson, John (Elizabeth) Jackson, Walter (Virginia) Jackson, Robert (Patricia) Jackson, Grace (John) Carfagno, and Margaret (Richard) Lawrence.
Bill grew up in Harmonville, PA and Conshohocken, PA, graduating Conshohocken High School as class president in 1956 active in chorus, band, and Tri-Y. As a member of the Uptown String Band Bill paraded with the Mummers in Philadelphia for 3 years. He worked in industry during high school, joined Walker Brothers full time upon graduation and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1958 assigned to the 2nd Marine Air Wing Band in Cherry Point, NC. Anne and Bill wed during his time in the Marines, they returned to Pennsylvania after his service living in Bryn Mawr and Rosemont, PA. Bill earned his BA in Industrial Arts while working for the Philadelphia Suburban Water Company, subsequently teaching at Vare H.S. in Philadelphia.
Bill and Anne moved to Oxford, NY in 1969 and he taught Industrial Arts and Drivers Ed at Sherburne-Earlville Schools for more than 30 years. Bill was an active member of the Oxford community as a Freemason, Scoutmaster, Tree Board chairman, and Lions club past president. Bill was also active in the Royal Arch Masons and Shriners, a member of Christ Lutheran Church and volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and the Classic Car Museum. Many also know Bill as a housepainter after his 27 years in business, teaching skills and work ethic to many young people.
Golf was a favorite pastime, enjoying the comradery of many different leagues. Travel was another passion, seeing many parts of the U.S.A. Bill was foremost dedicated to his family, God and Country, exhibiting high values, love and kindness. His witty sense of humor was infectious, brightening the spirts of his family and friends, he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff of the N.Y.S Veteran’s home for the compassionate and dignified care Bill received.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday December 14th at 10:30am. The service will be held at Christ Lutheran Church, 94 N. Broad Street, Norwich, NY 13815.
